LANCIA REDESIGN
CHALLENGE
This collaborative assignment tasked Hyeri Jeong and I to redesign Lancia pasta bags to make them more sustainable by eliminating single-use plastic from the design. Additionally, the aim was to enhance accessibility for physically disabled and blind customers.
PROCESS
After store checks and competitor analysis we focused on iterations, taking inspiration from the legibility of Swiss design principals.
OUTCOME
The accessibility aspect of the design is addressed through several features. Firstly, the boxes are made of cardboard and include an inner sleeve designed to facilitate pouring, particularly for individuals with physical disabilities such as arthritis. Additionally, the design incorporates NaviLens, a new QR code technology that aids blind individuals in navigating food items in grocery stores. This approach was chosen over traditional braille, recognizing that not all blind individuals can read braille, thus ensuring inclusivity.
The final design was tested to ensure a high enough contrast for package differentiation, enabling those who are color deficient or colour blind to distinguish between products on the shelf. Additionally, a long box type was proposed to allow for future expansion of the brand
