THE SCRAPS

Challenge

Create a booklet on any topic with original writing and imagery. I explored dream interpretation, unpacking the symbolism of recurring dreams and what they might reveal about our waking thoughts and feelings.

Process

I researched recurring dream themes and their symbolism, writing brief interpretations for each. Avoiding common dream clichés, I used collaged surrealism and a desaturated, cool-toned palette inspired by underwater imagery to evoke the distant, uncanny nature of dreams.

Solution

The final booklet combines bold typography, collage, and negative space to mirror the fragmented and often confusing nature of dreams. For the cover, I hand-cut “The Scraps” with an X-acto knife, then used the leftover cutouts to build a scrappy face on the next page — made from the literal scraps of the title.
